Enhancing the Protection and Respect of Human Rights for LGBTQIA+ Persons in Malawi

We are pleased to announce that UNDP is supporting Nyasa Rainbow Alliance through a six months project in taking a significant step towards protecting and respecting the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Intersex and Asexual community (LGBTQIA+). This project aims to address various challenges faced by the queer community while fostering a more inclusive and tolerant society.

The project emerges against the backdrop of global efforts to promote equality and human rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The UNDP’s commitment to fostering sustainable development is reflected in its decision to support Nyasa Rainbow Alliance in this initiative that champions the rights and protection of the LGBTQIA+ community.

For the next six months, the proposed activities of this project shall promote the involvement of key stakeholders that uphold the power to protect Malawian citizens. This will help promote changes in the society which would assist and advocate for people at risk of violence to seek justice, among other matters.

The UNDP’s support to NRA represents a crucial step towards building a more equitable society. By addressing legal barriers and developing awareness and inclusivity, this initiative aims to creating lasting change for the benefit of the LGBTQIA+ community in Malawi. The success of this project will not only impact the lives of individuals directly involved but also contribute to the broader movement for human rights and social justice on a national scale.
