Few Words About Us

Our History

Nyasa Rainbow Alliance is an LGBTQIA+ led organisation established in 2014. The Alliance was established after realising the implementation gaps within the existing LGBTQIA+ organisation and their scope of work. Nyasa Rainbow Alliance derived its strength from a group of LGBTQIA+ persons who came together to support the LGBTQIA+ community drawing from personal lived experiences including challenges of living as an LGBTQIA+ persons in Malawi.

Nyasa Rainbow Alliance was inspired by peer educators living in Southern Region of Malawi who strives to address challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community including human rights violations, inaccessibility of health services, stigma and discrimination from and lack of community driven initiatives.

Meet our staff

Eric Sambisa

Eric Sambisa is the Executive Director, a leading Malawian LGBTQI+ activist and a courageous voice for human rights. Since publicly coming out in 2017, he has dedicated his work to creating a society where LGBTQI+ individuals can live safely, openly, and with dignity.
Under Eric’s leadership, the organization has achieved historic milestones, including organizing Malawi’s first Pride parades and spearheading landmark legal challenges against decriminalization. His unwavering commitment to visibility and equality continues to inspire progress and resilience within marginalized communities across the region.

Juma Wasili

Juma Wasili is the Human Resource and Administration Manager at Nyasa Rainbow Alliance, serving in this role since 2014. With over 10 years of experience in project management, community mobilization, and human rights advocacy, he plays a key role in strengthening organizational systems and advancing inclusive development initiatives.
He is deeply committed to promoting social justice and ensuring equitable access to services for marginalized and vulnerable communities through community-led approaches.
Juma Wasili holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development from Blantyre International University.

What Makes Us Different

1. We Educate!

We help members of the LGBTQIA+ community understand about their human rights as well as SRHR.

We offer psycho-social support for members of the community that have faced or are facing any form of abuse.

We built capacities of both the LGBTQIA+ members as well as activists in order to serve the community well.

4. We Donate!

We donate at different levels according to our capacity. for example food, clothing and learning materials.
