Illuminating Impact: Canadian Embassy’s Visit to Nyasa Rainbow Alliance

On the 5th of March, 2024, the Deputy Head of Mission from the Embassy of Canada in Harare Zimbabwe, Ms. Jessica Dawson, and Wongayi Chashanga visited Nyasa Rainbow Alliance to interact with project staff and senior officials of the organization on the profound impact of the Embassy’s support to the organization.

Through the conversations held with program staff, the Embassy heard stories of resilience and courage—tales of triumph in the face of adversity, and of the profound impact that the organization has had on the lives of the LGBTQIA+ community in Malawi through the activities that the Canadian Embassy specifically supported.

As they bid farewell to the organization and the vibrant community it serves, the delegation left with a renewed sense of purpose and determination inspired by the resilience and strength of the organization.

Ultimately, the visit to NRA was more than just a tour—it was a journey of enlightenment and empowerment, a testament to the power of compassion and generosity to effect change. As they look toward the future, the Embassy knows that its partnership with the NRA will continue illuminating the path toward a more just and inclusive Malawi for all.

With support from the Canadian Embassy, Nyasa Rainbow Alliance has been implementing a six-month project whose main aim was to enhance the protection, respect, and fulfillment of human rights for all LGBTIQIA+ persons in Malawi.
